“WHERE ARE THEY NOW?” FORMER LEGENDSTOCK BANDOLERO WINNERS

BETHEL, NY – With Alliance Shippers’ LegendStock IX at Bethel Motor Speedway rapidly approaching on Saturday, August 6th, speedway management has decided to take a little time to look into where some of the past winners are. Over the next several weeks, we will be covering the Legends divisional winners that have stood in Victory Lane since the race’s inception back in 2008; today’s focus, however, will be on the Bandolero winners.

2008 – Matt Evans (Kirkwood, NY) – After securing his place in LegendStock history by winning the inaugural Bandolero feature event, Matt Evans went on to tackle the challenge of Legends racing, and found much success doing so. Matt was Bethel’s Legends Young Lion/Semi Pro champion in 2012 (as well as being named the track’s Most Improved Driver that year), and the Pro/Masters champion in 2013. In 2015, Matt finished tenth in overall national Pro division points, and was the New York state Pro division champion. With several races – and several podium finishes – under his belt at Chemung (NY) Speedrome so far in 2016, Matt is currently ranked 28th in national Pro division points, and sits fifth in New York state Pro division points.

2009 – Andrew Bickford (Brackney, PA) – Andrew Bickford also moved up the ranks from Bandoleros to Legends. For the past several seasons, Andrew has raced primarily on a part-time basis, mainly at Chemung (NY) Speedrome. Family has taken precedence for the Bickfords this season, and there are currently no plans for Andrew to race in the 2016 season, though a return to competition in 2017 hasn’t been ruled out.

2010 – Jordan LaMothe (Woodstock, CT) – Jordan LaMothe is presently registered with INEX as a competitor in the Legends Pro class. In 2015, he captured the Legends championship at Seekonk (MA) Speedway. Jordan is currently ranked 26th in Pro Road Course national points, having raced at Thompson (CT) Speedway Motorsports Park. He is also shown as being tied for 30th in points at Seekonk Speedway.

2011 – Kaz Grala (Boston, MA) – Kaz Grala, now 17 years old, has had a rapid ascension through the ranks of auto racing. By the time 2013 rolled around, Kaz was racing Late Models, and his first venture into the K&N Pro Series East came just one year later with Turner Scott Motorsports. Since that time, Kaz has driven Late Models for Kyle Busch Motorsports, and competed in the Rolex 24 at Daytona. His 2016 plans include a part-time stint with Ben Kennedy Racing in the K&N Pro Series (the team finished out the 2015 season together seventh in points in the series), and also competing in the Camping World Truck Series with GMS Racing. In four CWTS starts so far this season, Kaz has recorded two top-10 finishes.

2012 – Max Evans (Kirkwood, NY) – The guitar trophy that Max Evans collected at LegendStock 2012 was one of many prestigious wins that Max recorded in Bandoleros at Bethel Motor Speedway. At nine years old, Max became the youngest champion in Bethel history, winning the Bandolero title in 2011. He backed it up with two more Bandolero championships, in 2012 and 2013. Max has since made the transition into Legends cars, and he presently competes at Chemung (NY) Speedrome. Having moved into the Semi Pro division, Max is currently ranked 35th in national points and fifth in New York state points, having recorded more than five top-10 finishes already this season.

2013 – Christian Eckes (Greenville, NY) – Christian Eckes has also worked very quickly to build a very impressive resume. After moving up from Bandoleros to Legends, Christian was Bethel Motor Speedway’s 2014 Rookie of the Year in spite of running only a limited schedule at the track that season while on his way to a second place finish in national Young Lions points in an exciting battle that was determined by the finish at INEX Legends Asphalt Nationals. His 2016 schedule is busy, as he is running Late Model, Super Late Model, and CARS Tour races. He was signed by JR Motorsports over the offseason, and he has already scored one pole and two runner-up finishes on the CARS Tour this season. His schedule also include select ARCA races with Venturini Motorsports, and select K&N Pro Series East races with LFR Chassis. Christian qualified second and scored a top-10 finish in his K&N Pro Series debut earlier this season.

2014 – Alex McCollum (Phillipsburg, NJ) – Success has come seemingly easily for Alex McCollum in the Legends class, where he presently races in the Young Lions division. In 2015, just one year after capturing a coveted guitar trophy, Alex was the Bethel Motor Speedway Legends Young Lion champion. He finished fourth in national Young Lions points, and was the New Jersey state Young Lions champion. With only a limited number of races under his belt so far in 2016, Alex is ranked 44th in national Young Lions points, with one division win at Bethel. He has also raced at such tracks as Stafford (CT) Motor Speedway, Chemung (NY) Speedrome, and Shenandoah (VA) Speedway. Alex has also taken part in a few of the Bojangles Summer Shootout races.

2015 – David French (Rome, PA) – If David French were to be described in a single word, it would likely be “versatile”. The young driver has already amassed two Bandolero championships at both Bethel Motor Speedway and Chemung (NY) Speedrome. With 20 Bandolero wins at Bethel in 2015, David was driving double duty, and was also crowned Co-Rookie of the Year in the Legends division. So far in 2016, David has racked up two feature wins at Evans Mills (NY) Speedway, and one Pro division win each at Bethel Motor Speedway and Shangri-La II (NY). David presently sits sixth in national Pro division points. When he isn’t competing in Legends, David can be found wheeling his dirt Sprint car at such tracks as Canandaigua (NY) Motorsports Park.

With all of the former Bandolero race winners having moved up into other divisions, the door is wide open for another first-time winner to take home the trophy on August 6th at Alliance Shippers’ LegendStock IX at Bethel Motor Speedway. For the first time in the history of the event – thanks to title sponsor Alliance Shippers – both the Outlaw and Bandit division winners will receive a guitar trophy. There is no entry fee for Bandolero drivers for Alliance Shippers’ LegendStock IX, but teams are encouraged to pre-register. The fee for Legends is $75 prior to July 29th, and $85 after that date.
