Legendary driver Bobby Knipe from New Milford, CT will be our upcoming guest host on Saturday, May 20th for our ‘Scout Night” at Bethel Motor Speedway.

Some race fans who are centralized to the track that we love in White Lake, NY may not recognize his name, as he has never run a competitive lap at the track, or even being here in person for that matter. However, this past off season when Bobby heard about the lucrative highest paid Sportsman race “Summer of 69″ that is being held at Bethel on Sunday, August 6th and is part of the Brett Deyo Short Track Super Series. Plus hearing this the pleasant news of a Danbury Racearena themed night on July, 15th at Bethel has really caught his attention to the track he never really knew much about. In fact Bobby and his son Robbie’s race team plan on competing at Bethel Motor Speedway in 2017!

Bobby’s love for racing came at an early age as he would go to Danbury Racearena every week as a kid and really enjoyed the close short track asphallt modified action. He became a big fan of Chick Stockwell who was one of Danbury’s top drivers. Watching Chick Stockwell as a kid in the grandstands at Danbury inspired Bobby at a young age that one day he would become a racer too.

When Bobby came to the point that he was now ready to race a sad thing happened. The track that he loved Danbury, had been sold and was closing up forever. This setback did not deter Bobby’s motivation to race, and he decided to go racing at the next closest track which was the 5/8 mile hard clay at Orange County Fair Speedway. He made his debut in a Chevy Camaro Street Stock in the Rookie class. It didn’t take Bobby long to find victory lane as he won in his first ever feature!

He then went on to become a street stock king not only at OCFS but on the road too, as he picked up wins at Lebanon Valley, Accord, and Utica Rome Speedways. At OCFS he picked up many feature wins against a strong cast of competitors every week, at the time there was over 50 street stock drivers in competition each week. He also picked up four street stock points championships along the way.

In 1988, an unimaginable feat was accomplished which only a true legend could do. Bobby won the Street Stock Points Championship without having his own car or a committed car owner. Bobby borrowed and drove seven different street stocks during the season en route to his track championship. He would come to the track with his suit and helmet with the hopes of finding a gracious street stock race team to allow him to drive it for the night.

Bobby then made the move up into the Sportsman division and also found much success in that class too. Bobby again picked up numerous feature wins between OCFS and Lebanon Valley Speedway. He won the track championship at Lebanon Valley along with winning highly prestigious races like the Eastern States and Race of Kings for the Sportsman and with Street Stock.

Next in Bobby’s sights was Big Block Modifieds, and he found success picking up a feature win running a Ford powerplant against the very best drivers of the day like Hearn, D. Johnson, Horton, Heotzler, & M. Ricci.

In recent seasons, Bobby has concentrated in helping his son Robbie with his racing. Robbie has also found success picking up multiple feature wins at Lebanon Valley and Accord Speedways using the same # 18 that his father used in his career.

Please welcome our Guest Host Bobby Knipe to Bethel Motor Speedway and come out to the races for our ‘Scout Night” which is highlighted by the very fast ATQMRA TQ Midget racing series along with Vintage TQ Midgets on Saturday, May 20th.
