After getting three straight weeks of racing in, Bethel’s good luck ran out this past Saturday as a dismal forecast of rain and damp weather forced the cancellation of the evening’s events for the fifth time this season.
This coming Saturday is sure to be an exciting one as all classes will be in action. We will be celebrating ‘America’s Independence’ by highlighting our Extreme Kleaner Sportsman class with a ‘Firecracker Fifty’ race which is round two of Tri-Co Electric’s Sportsman Challenge Series. Competitors will draw for heat race position, then redraw for the feature The fifty lap feature will pay a spectacular $1,000 to the winner and will offer up a cool $75 to take the green for the feature. The winner will also receive a guaranteed front row starting position in one of the ‘Fall of 69’ qualifying races which will be held on September, 30th. The Sportsman and Shakelton Napa Street Stocks will also have double points on this night and could really shake up the point standings. The street stocks will also be competing in their ‘Stampede’ race which will be 25 laps and offer $250 to Win along with a ‘Woodstocker’ pole shot for its qualifying races.
Sunday, July 15 th will see Crate Dirt Sportsman and INEX classes being added to the Skelly’s Towing ‘Zoom & Doom Afternoon’. Races will begin at 2pm. This race will be wide open to win as the majority of Bethel’s own Sportsman racers will be ineligible to compete as it is 602 Crate Only. Also there will be a $1,000 to Win* Enduro that is for FWD Four Cylinder (Manual or Automatic) and FWD Six Cylinder (Automatic Only). The enduro cars can be as minimal as a ‘gut and go’. The enduro will be based on car count but plans to be 75 laps in length and will be sure to offer up plenty of spills and thrills for those in attendance.
Saturday, July 21 st will see the addition of Crate Sportsman for our ‘Remembering Danbury Racearena’ themed night sponsored by Lajoie’s Auto Wrecking in Norwalk, CT & the memorable Joe’s Bar & Grill in Danbury, CT. The ‘Danbury Night’ will be highlighted by the Interstate Batteries asphalt modifieds for their popular ‘Ev Pierce Memorial’. The race is run in honor of Pierce who was a very successful racer at both Danbury and Bethel collecting many feature wins between the two tracks. The race is a 40 lap feature paying $400 to win. This night will be crucial to many modified competitors as triple points are on the line. The night will also see the return of the ATQMRA three quarter midgets along with vintage midgets.
