Dan Conklin Jr.: Sportsman #19D

2009 and 2010 Sportsman Champion

Dan Conklin has been around racing for many years. When he wasn’t behind the wheel, he was turning wrenches as a crew chief on Sportsman and big block Modified cars at Orange County Fairgrounds Speedway.

Dan turned heads when he returned to driving in 2007, following a 15-year hiatus from the driver’s seat. Dan finished fifth in points at Accord Speedway in just his first year back, and he followed it up with a runner-up finish in points at Accord in 2008.

In 2009, Dan raced full-time on the pavement at Bethel Motor Speedway on Saturdays, while still competing at Accord on Friday nights. For Dan, the work of changing his car over every week paid off, as he grabbed seven wins and was named the 2009 Bethel Sportsman champion.

Dan followed up his 2009 championship by capturing the title again in 2010. He wrapped up the 2011 season with one win and was third in the season point standings.

Dan is a versatile driver who enjoys traveling and testing his luck at other speedways as well. Other tracks that Dan has competed at include Moc-A-Tek Speedway and Orange County Fairgrounds Speedway.

Like several other Bethel drivers, Dan has captured a fair amount of press coverage. He was among the drivers included in the “2009-2010 Car Builder’s Guide” published by Area Auto Racing News, and he was also included in a Speed51.com article about the Sportsman class at Bethel (“Taking the ‘Dirt” Out of the Sportsman Class at Bethel”).
